Phil Foden put in a majestic display against Burnley scoring 2 goals with the first one being an unerring low shot into the bottom corner from outside the box and another late goal from inside the box. He might have put up his case to becoming David Silva’s heir who is due to leave City at the end of this season.
So, in many ways, next season could make or break for Foden at Manchester City. If Guardiola rates Foden as high as he has stated in all his previous statements, he would certainly be tempted to use Foden much more than he has done this season. Foden has been limited to 3 starts and 12 substitute appearances this season in the premier league. It’s about time Guardiola gives Foden the opportunities that he does merit or he might be tempted to follow in the path of Jadon Sancho who has flourished and has turned into a world-beater after leaving Man City for Dortmund and is now one of the most sort after young talent around Europe.
With David Silva leaving the club at the end of this season, Foden could potentially be a ready-made replacement for the diminutive Spanish playmaker. Foden certainly needs minutes on the pitch to showcase the world about his enormous potential.
With euros being postponed to 2021. It could be a great opportunity for Foden to force his way into Southgate’s plan for the Euros. So he will be itching for minutes on the field and with Silva leaving, next season will be the best opportunity for Foden to show the world that he is ready to fill the void that silva’s departure will create in the city’s squad and step up to the challenge.
