The race for champions league spots is heating up in the premier league

With Leicester city unable to extend their lead in the 3rd position by playing out an entertaining draw with Brighton and Hove Albion, the race for the top 4 has intensified. Leicester City had a chance to go 7 points clear of Chelsea who is in 4th spot by beating Brighton. But they have to be thankful to Kasper Schmeichel for taking away any points from that game. Schmeichel made an excellent first-half penalty save to deny Neal Maupay the opportunity to score after James Justin had given away the penalty. Leicester City has now drawn the last two games after the restart of the premier league following the long enforced break due to the coronavirus.

Chelsea will have a chance to close the gap on Leicester city and further cement their champions league place if they are able to beat manchester city in their next game. With Manchester city having nothing to play for in the premier league having already cemented their place in the second position and having no chance of catching Liverpool who is only one game away from winning the title. So so with Chelsea actually having to fight for the champions league places will have the extra motivation to beat Manchester City. Since they have Wolves and Manchester United right behind their tail.

Manchester United’s next game is a must-win game against Sheffield United if they want to have any chance of qualifying for next year’s champion’s League with wolves breathing down their neck. Wolves are below Manchester United in the table just on goal difference and any slip up from Manchester United will see them climb above them.

All in all, with the title almost certain to go to Liverpool after almost 30 years, the race of the remaining two champions league spots are keeping the fans on their edges in the closing weeks of the premier league.
